I am a Miami criminal defense attorney and former prosecutor. Since 1982, I have defended men and women throughout the State of Florida who faced a wide variety of criminal accusations. Decades of experience allows me to quickly and accurately assess a set of case facts in order to prepare my clients for the various possible outcomes to their cases.
I graduated in 1978 from the University of Florida, College of Arts and Sciences with a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice before earning my Juris Doctor from the University of Florida in 1981. I was formally admitted as a member of the Florida Bar in 1982 and began my career as an Assistant State Attorney in Miami-Dade County. During my work as a prosecutor, I represented the State of Florida in a wide variety of criminal cases ranging from driving under the influence (DUI) to homicides.
In 1986, I began working as Senior Trial Attorney at Essen & Essen, P.A. I formed my own defense firm in 1992. In the years since, I am proud to have defended thousands of clients against a variety of serious charges. My experience and track record have given me a reputation for successful, aggressive, and informed advocacy, which has led to a variety of additional opportunities, including serving as judge for the University of Miami Law School Moot Court and Mock Trial Competitions, lecturing at the Miami-Dade County Police Academy on police officer courtroom procedure, and leading seminars on DUI defense and law for attorneys.
